Food Bank Sendai receives donations of safe-to-eat food from businesses and individuals that would otherwise be disposed of. We provide food and support services to those at risk of financial hardship, including the working poor, single-parent households, people with disabilities, the elderly, disaster victims, and foreign workers. We also work with the general public to address poverty, reduce food waste, promote local production and consumption, and build sustainable local economies.
To achieve these goals, we conduct poverty-related research, disseminate information to the mass media, and make policy recommendations. As a volunteer organization, we strive to eliminate poverty and hunger from society and contribute to the promotion of social welfare.
