The Housing Security Benefit is a benefit intended to secure housing for people who meet certain requirements.
Due to a national system reform effective April 1, 2025, the system has been revised to provide the following two types of benefits.
(1) Rent subsidies to secure employment opportunities
Those who have experienced a decrease in income due to job loss, the cessation of self-employment, or reasons or circumstances beyond their control (such as suspension of employment), and are in a similar situation to those who have lost their job, or are at risk of losing their rental home, will be provided with employment support and, in principle, three months’ rent subsidies.
(2) “Relocation Expense Subsidy” to improve household finances
Relocation expenses will be subsidized for those whose household income has decreased significantly (the month in which the application date falls must be within two years of the significant decrease in income) and whose household finances are deemed to improve by moving to a cheaper home.
