Jiyukai, the parent organization of Jiyu Gakuen, is a social welfare organization founded in October 1919 by Dr. Benta Shiio and Mr. Jirozaemon Ito in the wake of the post-World War I recession. Furthermore, the organization continues to engage in a wide range of social activities, including childcare, mother-child dormitories, and orphanages, led by the Jodo sect Nagoya Temple. The organization’s mission is to foster children with rich, humane personalities, centered on the Three Treasures of Buddhism and the three principles of “cheerfulness, righteousness, and friendship.” Children live with adults in a home-like environment, enjoying bright, happy days.

Jiyu Gakuen staff, guided by the guiding principle of “All for the smiles of children,” provide specialized care for each child’s best interests, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to foster self-realization and independence. The facility as a whole is also working towards the goal of family reunification and support for independence. With the motto of “raising and being raised by the whole community,” the facility is open to the community and actively participates in local events.
