In Japan, 5 million tons of food is disposed of every year despite there being no problem with quality or safety. Even if the food is within its expiration date, it cannot be sold due to printing errors, broken boxes, or because it is out of standard.
As a food bank, we accept donations from companies, farmers, individuals, etc. and provide them free of charge to people in poverty (single-parent families, caregiver families, unemployed people, foreign workers, homeless people, etc.), child care facilities, facilities for the disabled, elderly care facilities, foster parents, family homes, etc.
Food banks are a social contribution activity that turns the overflowing “waste” in our society into “thank you.”
