Motoderakoji Church was opened in 1877 by Father Poultran of the Paris Foreign Missions Society, and after the Sendai Cathedral was completed in 1897, it became the cathedral (cathedral) of the Sendai Diocese in 1936. The cathedral and bishop’s residence were destroyed in an air raid in 1945, but were rebuilt in 1952, and the current cathedral was completed in 1993.
Our church is located in the center of Sendai city, and has a membership of approximately 1,100. The church has a main cathedral, a small chapel, a hall, and more (the main cathedral also has a children’s room where you can attend Mass with your infants). We also have a Sunday school (for elementary school students), a Maria room (for infants), and many youth groups. A priest from the Senen district resides in our church, and faith classes are held every week. You are welcome to pray in the chapel at any time, so please feel free to come.
